Do babies pull up floor vents?

How do I secure floor vents from children?

GuardaVent covers use a secure-fit design that replaces your existing vent cover. A drill is required for installation, but the screws are included in your order.

At what age do children stop being a risk around floor vents?

Most parents find the highest-risk period is from when a child starts crawling (around 6–9 months) through to about age 4–5, when children better understand household hazards or become more interested in thier toys.

Can toys damage HVAC systems?

Yes. Small toys and other objects dropped into floor vents can travel into the ductwork, cause blockages, damage the blower motor, or reduce system efficiency. A secure vent cover prevents this entirely.

What happens if a toy falls into a floor vent?

Objects that fall into ductwork can be difficult and expensive to retrieve. They may rattle, block airflow, or cause damage to your HVAC system. Prevention with a secure vent cover is far easier than retrieval.

Are floor vents a choking hazard?

How do I measure my floor vent?

Measure the length and width of the duct opening in the floor - not the existing cover. GuardaVent covers are sized to fit the duct opening, and sizes include 3"x10" or 4"x10" only at this time.

Currently, we can not accomodate additional sizes, but it is our plan to eventually have larger sizes - keep checking back!

Do vent covers fit carpet?

Yes. GuardaVent covers are designed to work on carpeted floors, as long as the distance from the top of the floor to where the screw is insterted is not more than 1".

Do vent covers work on hardwood floors?

Yes. Our covers work on hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, and carpet. The design accommodates different flooring surfaces without scratching or damaging them.

Can I use GuardaVent covers on wall or ceiling vents?

Our covers are specifically designed for floor vents, however if the vent opening is the correct size, and there is a sufficient area for the screws to insert into, they have been used in ceilings and walls.

Installation

Can I install GuardaVent covers myself?

Yes - installation is designed to be simple. Place the cover over the duct opening, open the lid, and drill the screws into the subfloor on each side. Full instructions are included with every order.

How long does installation take?

Most installations take under 3 minutes per vent.

Are floor registers removable after installation?

GuardaVent covers are designed to be adult-removable for cleaning and HVAC maintenance, while resisting removal by young children.

Will installing a vent cover affect my airflow?

No. GuardaVent covers are designed to maintain airflow through the vent while keeping the opening secure. The grille pattern allows air to pass freely.

Do I need to remove the old vent cover first?

Yes - remove your existing vent cover before installing a GuardaVent cover. Most standard covers simply lift out or have two screws to remove.

HVAC & Home Compatibility

Will a vent cover affect my heating and cooling efficiency?

No. GuardaVent covers are designed to allow full, unobstructed airflow. They replace your existing vent cover and perform the same airflow function.

Are GuardaVent covers compatible with forced-air systems?

Yes. Our covers are compatible with standard forced-air heating and cooling systems commonly found in Canadian and North American homes.

Do vent covers get hot?

Our covers are made from materials that handle normal HVAC operating temperatures safely. They will not become dangerously hot under normal use.

Can I close off a vent with a GuardaVent cover?

GuardaVent covers are designed with the abillity to adjust the airflow if needed.

How do I clean my vent cover?

Remove the cover and wipe it down with a damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, mild soap and water work well. Allow to dry before reinstalling.

How often should I clean my floor vents?

We recommend cleaning vent covers every 1–3 months, or more frequently in homes with pets or high dust levels.
