About GuardaVent - Childproof Vent Covers for the Home

Like so many parents, I thought I had done everything I could to make my home safe for my baby.

Cabinets? Locked.
Stairs? Gated.
Electrical outlets? Covered.

Then one day, my seven-month-old—who had just learned to crawl—pulled the floor vent cover right out of the floor.

At first, I was surprised.

Then I looked inside.

Sharp sheet metal. Exposed screws. A hole leading into our HVAC system. Suddenly, the floor vent in the middle of my living room wasn't just another part of the house - it felt like an accident waiting to happen.

Once my son realized he could remove the vent cover, he kept going back to it. No matter how many times I put it back, he could pull it right out again.

Two years later, when my daughter started crawling, history repeated itself. Except she added a new challenge by dropping toys and anything else she could find down the vents.

I assumed there had to be a childproof vent cover already on the market, so I searched everywhere.

Home Depot.
Canadian Tire.
Home Hardware.

I didn't find anything.

That's when I realized if I wanted a solution, I was going to have to create it myself.

I had never invented a product before. I wasn't an engineer or a manufacturer - I was simply a mom who wanted to keep her children safe.

What started as one idea quickly turned into an almost 3 year journey of designing, testing, prototyping, filing for patent protection, and working with manufacturers to create a product that actually solved the problem.

There were moments I questioned whether I should keep going. It was expensive. It was overwhelming. And there were plenty of times I wondered if I was in over my head - with so much imposter syndrome.

But every time I thought about giving up, I remembered why I started.

Today, GuardaVent is the childproof vent cover I wished had existed when my children were babies.

It securely attaches to the floor instead of simply resting on top like traditional vent covers. It helps protect curious little hands from sharp metal edges and exposed screws while keeping toys, food, pet hair, and other household items out of your HVAC system.
